"COULD THE ILLUSION ERA GUNS N ROSES LINE-UP REALLY RETURN?:

Is the impossible actually being considered? Rumors of a Guns N Roses re-union appear to be gathering strength. It all started at British photographer/journalist Ross Halfin's website when he stated that the original Guns N' Roses lineup would get back together in June to play at the Download Festival in England, with Metallica also lined up to play.

That comment was soon withdrawn. Posted was: "I have to write some copy this weekend on Guns 'N Roses for a feature to go with my photos. My mind is blank at the moment. The thing is if you tell the truth it sets off too many wars, or egos way out of control. The original line-up is supposed to play Download in June with their metal chums, Metallica, if Lars can be bothered to turn up."

Now this - on the official Cult message board, frontman Ian Astbury has responded to a post asking after the possible 2006 touring line-up for The Cult. His response: "I love Matt he is a sweetheart..........Velvet Revolver Guns and Roses rumoured return W/SLASH and AXL .......Hey the Cult can barly contain Billy and Myself......But we will have a SHITHOT band for you so patience please."

So Use Your Illusion drummer Matt Sorum appears too busy for Cult duties it seems! Whether this will happen, if it will be a one-off performance or where this will leave the Chinese Democracy release and new Velvet Revolver releases are all questions to be answered in the coming weeks."

Well, Sorum is not an "original", and probably not the drummer most people would want to see behind the kit. I would bet that the version we would see would be Axl, Slash, Sorum, Gilby and Duff. In other words, I would bet we get the Illusion version long before we would ever see an Appetite version back on stage. I would be surprised if Izzy were to go back on stage with them, and I would die if they asked Adler back. They all seem to forget that he was ever with them, as does the rest of the world.

in my opinion, they, being Guns n Roses, lost all their swagger once Adler and Izzy left. Sorum might be more talented as a drummer (debatable) but Adler is Guns N Roses. Adler had the groove where Sorum had the technique and to me GnR were all about swagger and groove.

Carl, did you read Adlers 'interview' over at Sludge? very good read, very in depth.

I don't think you will ever get the Appetite line up together again and i don't think i would want to see it anyway. I love Guns n Roses, Appetite era, but if you can't top it, which i doubt they could, then they should just leave it in the past.

No, I didn't see the interview. Link?

I'm not a GnR fan at all, but I am an Izzy fan. So for that, I would hate to see a full fledged "reunion", as it would go against all that Izzy seems to be. Now, I could see them (the Appetite line-up) doing a one-off gig at a small club just for shits and grins. That is, if Axl could see it in himself to "have fun" for one night, leave the egos at the door, and leave the "need to get BIG MONEY" at the door also. So, in other words, I don't expect it to ever happen.

I read today in the Sun newspaper here that Slash has stated that The Chines Democracy album will be out during March this year!!! (Which is not far away) Strange that Slash has made tthe statement though, which would fuel the fire that he is/has been in contact with Axl???

Hmmmmm, 'kay...I guess we know why Adler isn't allowed back in any of the bands. It seems that he can't stay off the drugs. I didn't know AA was done for abuse. Idiot. Pity, I bet he's a cool guy. But at the same time, I think it wouldn't take a psychologist to figure out why he keeps doing drugs.

Didn't Slash hand pick Gilby and didn't Axl have a big issue from day one? I thought it was Axl who told Slash to give him the boot cause he refused to talk to him at all.

... that new picture of Axl on Metal Sludge doesn't make me want to hear anything or see any reunion, god he looks like a drunk Teletubbie or something. I'd rather see Velvet Revolver.

About Sorum/Adler, yes Matt Sorum is a better drummer but he's more like a professional studio drummer whereas Adler was perfect for "appetite for destruction" because it was more rock'n'roll, wild. But from what I read, they fired him because he just couldn't play an entire song anymore because of the drugs...
